Two alpine houses redefine mountain living by seamlessly integrating tradition, innovation, and environmental responsibility. Set on a steep slope, they rest on a solid concrete base that anchors them to the terrain, while the upper timber volume highlights sustainability with its patented wooden construction—free from adhesives and assembled using solid wooden dowels. A striking panoramic window acts as a bridge between indoors and outdoors, capturing sweeping views and immersing the interiors in natural light. The design fosters a close connection with the surrounding environment, prioritizing ecological integrity without compromising on aesthetics.

A raised wooden terrace extends from the main volume, serving multiple functions as an entrance, an elevated observation deck, and a sheltered outdoor space for year-round use. The floating roof, clad in hand-split wooden shingles, enhances the organic feel of the design, lending a meditative, tent-like quality. Carefully selected materials, including untreated timber and natural stone, ensure that the structures age gracefully within the Alpine setting, blending harmoniously with the surrounding forest. This sensitive approach allows the architecture to exist in dialogue with nature rather than imposing upon it.

Designed by Dekleva Gregorič Architects, these twin alpine retreats represent a contemporary interpretation of mountain architecture, where craftsmanship, sustainability, and landscape integration define the experience of living in the highlands. Every detail, from the structural techniques to the material choices, contributes to a refined yet deeply rooted alpine aesthetic, offering a model for environmentally conscious design in remote settings.
