Integrated into the slope
Atelierhaus 2041 stands like a solitary boulder on a forested Engadin hillside, its blackened timber volume quietly echoing the Alpine terrain. With a compact cubic form and restrained presence, the house aligns itself with the mountain panorama while descending into two additional underground levels. A concrete garage entrance emerges naturally from the sloped terrain, seamlessly integrated into the setting.

Sculptural spatial sequence
Inside, a black steel staircase rises sculpturally through four levels, illuminated by a large rooftop glazing that floods the central volume with natural light. Precisely positioned windows in various formats frame views of the surrounding peaks and woodland, creating the impression of a treetop dwelling. From the exterior, the windows reflect and project the ever-changing landscape.

Durable Alpine materials
The facade is clad in charred Swiss fir, processed locally in the Engadin. This traditional technique gives Atelierhaus 2041 its distinctive dark appearance while enhancing its resilience to weather. Raw, tactile surfaces and a strong focus on craftsmanship define the material palette, contributing to a lasting sense of quality and place.

Warmth and continuity
Interior finishes include native stone pine for floors and ceilings, untreated larch for windows, and walnut for interior doors. The owner’s love for timber is reflected in the choice of furnishings—where antique pieces are thoughtfully combined with contemporary elements—enhancing the house’s timeless and personal character.
