A sculptural dialogue in the alpine village
The Swisshouse XXXV is a compact yet striking intervention in the village of Rossa in Graubünden. Its cubic form, subtly twisted, pays homage to the proportions of vernacular architecture while introducing a new spatial dynamism. The structure’s outer clarity contrasts with its inner complexity, inviting discovery through shifting perspectives and layered volumes that echo the dramatic alpine terrain.

Reading the landscape through built form
This small-scale project acts as a lens to interpret the historical and geographical essence of the Calanca valley. It does not impose itself but rather enhances the surrounding built environment, reflecting the rhythms of past settlements and the raw energies of the mountainous context. The form and orientation of the building respond instinctively to the topography and light, allowing the landscape to flow into and through the interior.

Architecture as spatial experience
Inside, the house reveals an unexpected generosity of space. Double-height volumes and carefully placed openings shape a meditative atmosphere, where natural light plays across surfaces and the outside world enters in fragments. The upward movement of the form conveys a sense of release, while still rooted in the solidity of the earth, offering a sense of calm and lightness within.
