A contemporary rural home
House Kozjek stands in the village of Selo pri Mirni, Slovenia, offering a modern interpretation of traditional rural architecture. Its design reflects the local building culture while embracing a sustainable approach that is rooted in place and material. The project demonstrates how contemporary construction can carry forward the spirit of regional heritage without imitation.

Natural and local materials
The house is built around a timber frame structure, chosen for its renewable qualities and connection to the region’s forested surroundings. Straw is used as insulation for both walls and roof, providing excellent thermal performance while keeping the building breathable. This combination of natural elements not only ensures comfort but also reduces the environmental footprint of the project.

Crafted surfaces and finishes
Lime plaster defines the exterior, giving the facade a tactile quality that changes with light and weather. Inside, clay plaster enhances the warmth of the living spaces, regulating humidity and contributing to a healthy indoor environment. These handcrafted finishes underline the project’s respect for traditional materials while highlighting their relevance in modern living.

A warm and lasting atmosphere
Beyond its technical and ecological aspects, House Kozjek embodies a sense of continuity and belonging. The thoughtful use of local resources creates a harmonious connection between the building and its setting, ensuring resilience and longevity. It is a home that demonstrates how rural traditions can inform contemporary design with integrity and comfort.
