A gateway for learning and community
At the edge of Bohinjska Bistrica, The Bohinj Kindergarten forms a key visual and functional landmark alongside the church and school. Conceived as a continuous playground, it blends indoor and outdoor spaces to support exploration, learning, and connection with the surroundings.

Three volumes and a central courtyard
The building is divided into three timber-clad volumes beneath sloped roofs, reflecting the horizontal lines of the valley. A central open courtyard anchors the layout, creating a welcoming entrance and organizing the outdoor spaces around it.

Tradition reimagined for movement
Inspired by the local “gank,” or porch, a looping corridor connects the interior spaces and allows children to move freely through the building. At its eastern edge, the kindergarten opens fully to the landscape, reinforcing its bond with the Alpine environment.

A shared space for the village
Beyond classrooms and services, one of the volumes houses a multipurpose hall for public use. This space hosts events and gatherings, turning the kindergarten into a vibrant hub that supports both early education and village life.
