Dialogues between volumes
Casa VG Renovation in Madesimo rethinks a 1920s rural building and its incongruous 1970s extension by focusing on their physical contiguity. The project explores how closely placed volumes, often seen in traditional Alpine structures, shift perception depending on one’s viewpoint—sometimes appearing as a single form. This spatial interplay becomes central to the design, guiding a measured intervention that respects the context while redefining it.

Minimal additions, clear definitions
Instead of extensive alterations, the project by Enrico Scaramellini minimizes additions, drawing a clear distinction between the taller, gabled volume and the lower, flat-roofed section. A linear parapet unifies the southern facade while also emphasizing the point where the staircase access is located. The gentle detachment between forms is made legible through subtle offsets and partial timber cladding.

Redefining disruption as character
A new wooden volume slightly projects on the upper floor, offering compositional clarity and enhancing the building’s layered identity. Elements once considered visual disruptions are reframed as meaningful architectural gestures. These careful recalibrations elevate the structure, making it legible, coherent, and engaging for its surroundings.

A balanced renewal
The project doesn’t erase the past but overlays it with precision and care, transforming the structure into a cohesive whole. Casa VG becomes an example of architectural regeneration, where measured design breathes new life into a disregarded building, creating a harmonious relationship with the Alpine landscape.
