The Ciasa Le Fiun

Location: Marebbe, Trentino-Südtirol, Italian Alps

Year: 2021

Architecture: Daniel Ellecosta

Photography: Gustav Willeit

Blending Tradition with Function

Ciasa Le Fiun stands alone on a steep southern slope in Marebbe, overlooking the Sass de Putia. Positioned along the winding road to Passo Furcia, the building responds to a complex brief: combining commercial use with official housing while respecting the architectural heritage of the local “Viles” hamlets.

A Barn-Inspired Form

Daniel Ellecosta designed the structure as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional “Stadel” barns. The elongated gabled volume, aligned with the slope, rests on a solid plastered base, with a wooden superstructure above. This juxtaposition reflects the agricultural vernacular of the area while adapting it for modern needs.

Crafted Presence and Material Honesty

The vertical wooden supports give the building a striking rhythm and strong architectural presence. At the same time, the use of local timber and rough plaster grounds the project in its surroundings. These choices connect the building visually and materially to its Alpine context.
