Urban renewal in Rožna Dolina
This project responds to the fragmented and aging urban fabric of Ljubljana’s Rožna Dolina district, where modern villas now emerge among run-down homes and neglected gardens. The Double Brick House replaces a dilapidated structure on a narrow site with a precise and sculptural form. Positioned between older buildings, it contributes to a slow but clear shift toward urban refinement and higher-quality living spaces in the area.

A house for two families
The semi-detached house accommodates two families across three floors, each unit offering 170 m² of living space. The long, narrow plot—just 6 meters wide—dictated a linear layout, with both residences aligned lengthwise. A shared entrance court provides access from the street, while private living spaces open toward an elongated garden atrium, enhancing light and connection to the outdoors.

Vertical organization and functional clarity
Each unit is organized vertically: ground-floor living areas connect directly to the garden, children’s rooms and a study occupy the first floor, and the top level is reserved for the parents, complete with a rooftop terrace. This stacked composition informs the sculptural quality of the building and allows for clear separation of functions across floors.

A monolithic brick expression
Clad entirely in dark brown brick, the building reads as a unified volume shaped by subtraction. Window openings are rhythmically arranged, creating a textured yet solid facade. Rather than emphasizing structural elements, the design leans into material cohesion and formal presence – offering a quiet but assertive addition to its transforming urban context.
