Rooted in local tradition
Located in the village of Buchen in Graubünden, House Furggaleidis draws inspiration from the archetypal stables of the region. The elongated structure pays tribute to this heritage while introducing the clarity and functionality of a contemporary home. Its orientation and proportions reflect the quiet rhythm of the agricultural surroundings, ensuring a respectful dialogue between architecture and landscape.

Terrain-responsive layout
Every room in the house is carefully positioned to align with the sloping terrain and its uses. The attic level opens up to accommodate the primary living spaces, which are bathed in light and offer expansive views of the surrounding fields and hills. A generously covered terrace – integrated within the building’s tectonic grid – extends the interior into the garden and creates a seamless flow between inside and out.

Privacy and protection
The more private rooms are situated on the ground floor, forming a retreat beneath the open attic above. A series of vertical facade filters, set in front of floor-to-ceiling glazing, add depth and modulate light, while simultaneously offering natural sun protection. These elements introduce a sense of enclosure without sacrificing openness.

A quiet presence
The exterior is defined by a raw, pre-greyed wooden formwork that wraps the house entirely. This material choice reinforces the building’s calm and minimalist character, allowing it to blend harmoniously into the Alpine context while retaining a strong architectural identity.
