Reinterpreting the Residential Plot

The House with Atrium in Wörgl expands a modest existing house into a striking live–work ensemble. The original structure is joined by two new volumes to form a continuous ring around a central sunken courtyard. This transformation not only adds a second compact living unit but also reintegrates the overgrown plot, with its mature fruit trees, into a cohesive spatial concept. The lowered atrium enhances privacy by blocking unwanted views while ensuring ample daylight reaches the interiors.

A Work Space Below Ground

One wing of the ensemble houses a spacious, understated archive and work studio. Due to zoning constraints on building height along the boundary, the floor is lowered by 1.8 meters, creating a generous 4-meter-high ceiling. Though the space lacks conventional windows, it gains indirect daylight from above, filtered through the atrium. The design offers a serene and focused atmosphere, intentionally reduced in aesthetic to provide a neutral background for concentrated creative work.

Living Vertically in the Tower

The second residential unit takes shape around a small cylindrical tower, which rises from the southwest section of the complex. Internally organized across multiple levels, the apartment replaces a traditional living room with fluid, functional zones for eating, sleeping, and bathing. With minimal openings to the outside, the tower relies on a large skylight to illuminate its tall interior, turning the space into a theatrical vessel for light and shadow play.

Minimal Openings, Maximum Atmosphere

This living concept redefines domestic space through restraint and clarity. With just 68 square meters, the apartment avoids superfluous rooms, instead offering direct spatial connections and atmospheric richness. A small garden terrace under the skylight opens toward the orchard, where outdoor meals beneath apple trees complete the subtle choreography between architecture, light, and landscape.
