Designing with constraints

Set on a steep, triangular plot bordered by forest and stream, this Alpine home embraces a challenging site to shape its architectural identity. With a north-facing slope and difficult access, the conditions demanded creative solutions. Rather than fight the terrain, the design turns each constraint into an opportunity. The house adopts a radiating plan that opens in several directions, offering layered perspectives of the surrounding forest and Alpine landscape, and establishing a strong dialogue with its natural context.

A plan that follows the light

The upper ground floor accommodates the main living spaces, choreographed to follow the sun throughout the day. To the south, the dining and kitchen area extends onto a spacious terrace, ideal for outdoor gatherings. Westward, a generous living room rises with a double-height ceiling, culminating in a sheltered loggia that captures the warm light of the setting sun. These sun-oriented gestures create a home that responds actively to its environment, both functionally and emotionally.

Framing views like paintings

On the cooler northern and western sides, windows are composed with care, framing specific fragments of the landscape as if they were artworks. Each opening offers a curated glimpse into the Alpine surroundings, making the exterior ever-present within the interior. The architecture doesn’t just allow for views—it elevates them, turning the natural setting into an integral part of the home’s spatial experience.

Tradition reinterpreted with technology

The facades subtly reference regional architecture through contemporary means. Diamond-shaped solar panels are integrated directly into the sloping roof surfaces, merging cutting-edge sustainability with a form language reminiscent of traditional roofing patterns. This seamless fusion of old and new ensures that the house feels both innovative and rooted, an example of how contemporary Alpine architecture can remain sensitive to place while embracing progress.
