Linear layout with open spatial flow

Positioned on a quiet plot near historic farms in Holzkirchen, the Timber House extends along the site’s edge with a clear, elongated layout. The floor plan arranges entrance and utility spaces to the west, while kitchen, dining, and living areas flow together in the east. A covered veranda faces south, expanding the interior into the surrounding space and providing generous light and outdoor connection.

Natural envelope with local resonance

Clad in untreated local larch, the facade wraps over certain openings, creating nuanced transitions and offering privacy without compromising light. Small decorative boards conceal the batten substructure, allowing the vertical alignment to remain uninterrupted. This subtle detailing pays tribute to traditional craftsmanship and echoes the material textures of the rural Bavarian context.

Solid Spruce

Inside, glueless solid spruce defines the structure and atmosphere, lending warmth and cohesion. The entire above-ground construction consists of prefabricated spruce wall and ceiling elements, which reduced both the construction time and logistical complexity. By omitting plastics and foils, the building underscores a commitment to ecological construction methods.

Quietly Contemporary

The Timber House avoids spectacle in favor of lasting clarity—merging traditional forms and materials with a refined, contemporary sensibility. Its restrained exterior, open interior continuum, and sustainable building practices create a residential architecture that sits gently within its surroundings while offering a durable and expressive domestic framework.
