Concrete form with alpine sensitivity
The Trin Cabin stands on a slope above the village of Trin in Graubünden, presenting a refined take on alpine living. Completed in 2016, the project by Schneller Caminada introduces a sculptural three-story volume with a light-hued concrete facade. Local pigments subtly tie the material to its surroundings, while a steeply pitched gabled roof alludes to traditional forms without imitating them. An adjoining annex with space for two cars marks the entrance and anchors the building to the terrain.

Raw materials, refined atmosphere
The interior continues the exterior’s material honesty, combining exposed concrete with warm wooden surfaces. This interplay defines the atmosphere throughout the living spaces, which include a living room, dining area, kitchen, library, studio, and two bedrooms. Varying ceiling heights and shifting orientations lend each room its own spatial character, while generous glazing draws in daylight and frames the mountain landscape beyond.

Architecture grounded in place
Every element of the house balances modernity with contextual awareness—from its material palette to its compact yet expressive volume. The annex contributes both functionally and compositionally, linking the house to the slope while enhancing its architectural clarity. With its clean lines and robust presence, the Trin Cabin demonstrates how contemporary architecture can root itself in the Alpine environment without resorting to nostalgia.
