A sculptural form in a traditional setting
This 330-square-metre single-family residence in Kitzbühel reinterprets the alpine home through a distinctly contemporary lens. Completed in 2023, the project departs from the surrounding vernacular with its clear geometric lines and material precision. A cuboid volume topped with a pitched roof and green flat extensions unites a main living space, a bicycle workshop, and a technical annex—forming a sculptural ensemble that quietly integrates into its mountainous surroundings while clearly signaling architectural innovation.

Natural materials and breathable construction
The construction uses local moon-felled spruce and larch dowels for the ground and upper floors, supported by a concrete basement. This method, developed in collaboration with Thoma-Holz, ensures a diffusion-open structure that promotes healthy indoor air quality. The breathable timber elements reinforce a commitment to sustainability, while also grounding the home in regional building practices.

Rammed earth as structural and sensory core
At the center of the floor plan stands a 35-centimetre-thick rammed earth elevator tower, anchoring the house both visually and climatically. It supports excellent thermal performance and natural humidity regulation, while a spiraling staircase with intermediate landings wraps around it, adding movement and material depth to the interior. The earth tones and textures bring a tactile quality rarely seen in residential alpine construction.

Elevated comfort through ecological choices
The upper floor continues this material narrative with a rammed earth chimney—echoing the elevator tower—and ceilings insulated with clay and sheep’s wool beneath wooden slats. These choices highlight a refined take on ecological luxury, demonstrating that comfort, aesthetics, and sustainability can be seamlessly integrated. Every element of House P Kitzbühel has been calibrated to offer an elevated alpine lifestyle without compromising environmental responsibility.
