From Three to Four Homes
Originally planned as three residential units, the project evolved into four apartments during the design process, giving rise to its name, Quattro Formaggi. The central challenge was to provide each unit with generous spatial quality while maintaining privacy across all homes on a site overlooking Lake Achensee.

Reinterpreting the Pitched Roof
Responding to local regulations that required pitched roofs with overhangs, the design reinterprets these constraints through three interlocking gabled volumes. Partially cut and abstracted roof forms transform the prescribed elements into a contemporary ensemble that balances regulation with architectural clarity.

Split-Level Living and Framed Views
The interlocking volumes generate complex interior and exterior geometries. All four apartments are organised as split-level units, creating varied spatial sequences shaped by changes in level and the interplay between interior, exterior, and intermediate spaces. Each dwelling is carefully oriented to frame views toward the lake, open surroundings, and the Alpine panorama.

Restrained Materials and Subtle Variation
A restrained palette defines the building’s character. Grey plaster facades vary subtly from volume to volume, while larch wood elements add warmth and contrast. This material language continues inside, reinforcing a calm and coherent atmosphere throughout the residential spaces.
