A landmark in the landscape
Built in 2020 in Straß im Attergau, the Resurrection Chapel transforms a former gravel pit into a place of quiet contemplation. A bold concrete bracket anchors the chapel into the hillside, forming a clear threshold between everyday terrain and a sacred space. The intervention marks the landscape with clarity, turning a previously undefined slope into a communal point of orientation.

Subtle procession and spatial drama
Visitors approach the chapel through a modest forecourt before entering an anteroom, subtly guided through a quiet spatial sequence. The circulation diverts from the obvious and culminates in a surprising entrance from the rear into the main volume. This spatial choreography heightens the sense of arrival, inviting reflection through its deliberate pacing and orientation.

Sacral atmosphere through simplicity
Constructed with pointed concrete and lined with vertical wooden slats, the interior of the chapel is deliberately restrained. At the upper edge, the structure appears to dissolve, letting in light that animates the surfaces and heightens the sense of the ethereal. The interplay of rough and refined textures supports the chapel’s contemplative function while expressing architectural clarity.

Materiality and identity
The use of untreated larch and spruce alongside exposed concrete defines both the character and tactile quality of the building. This reduction to essential materials—honest and regionally rooted—lends the Resurrection Chapel its unmistakable identity and a timeless, grounded presence in its Alpine surroundings.
