A village for children
In the center of Egg in the Bregenzerwald, the Kinderhaus im Park strengthens the village core with a structure that echoes local building traditions. Four gabled volumes reinterpret the surrounding vernacular, creating a small-scale ensemble suited to children. Set back from the road, the kindergarten opens onto a generous forecourt, while a nearby stream and surrounding green spaces enrich the outdoor areas with natural play zones.

Shared spaces and flexible use
A central entrance leads into the public wing, which includes a kitchen, dining area, and movement room. The northern wing doubles as a multipurpose hall, used for village events and family programs. From here, a “village street” connects the children’s group rooms, which are loosely arranged to foster openness and interaction. A central gathering space creates a natural focal point for everyday life.

Timber construction and daylight
Built as a single-storey timber structure, the kindergarten uses prefabricated wall and roof elements to streamline construction. Generous ceiling heights of up to six meters and abundant daylight give the rooms an atelier-like feel. Materials such as softwood, waxed casein flooring, and glass create a tactile, inviting atmosphere.

Designed for exploration
Kinderhaus im Park offers a spatial experience that invites children to explore and engage. The building’s scale, layout, and materiality support intuitive learning, blending interior and exterior into a cohesive, child-friendly world.
